Eileen Sproule

• director / dramaturg

Eileen Sproule is a graduate of the University of Leeds (M.A.) and Concordia University, Montreal (B.F.A. Honours). She has been directing theatre in Western Canada since 1989, when she became the Associate Artistic Director at Regina's Globe Theatre. Edmonton-based since 1990, she has also been very active in Calgary, most recently with the marionette film The Kay Stories, and the Green Fools' Project Whooping Crane. Most of her work has been on new creations, often being brought in by the writer as director/dramaturge, or as co-creator. Dark and edgy, performer-driven, usually with live music, her work has been described as "controlled chaos", and two of the wilder pieces, Geek Love and Pilk's Madhouse, won Sterling awards.

She has collaborated with Peter Moller since 1999, both with her company generic Theatre (Mistero Buffo, X-Dimensia, The DeadRats Trilogy - all 4 plays of it!) and Calgary-based companies Ghost River Theatre with Venus Rising and The Old Trout Puppet Workshop with Beowulf .
